VSWGA Bulletin June 2025

VSWGA CALENDAR AND MEMBERSHIP
Ah Vermont…she always surprises us. The weather for the start of our State Days has been all over the board, from sunshine and 80 to cold, misty rain in the 40s. Hopefully the 40s are behind us now…
Visit https://vswga.org/calendar/ for the full lineup of State Days, Majors and Invitationals around the state.
PACE OF PLAY
Thank you for keeping your pace of play so great as we start this rainy and cold state day season. The rough is deep, the temps are cold, and yet you all are still keeping up with the groups ahead and making it enjoyable for everyone behind you! Of course we all have times during the rounds that we may have to wait because, well, we all have those holes, but whatever you are doing (such as split-up to catch-up) to make up time, please keep up the great work! So far thru (5/21/25) we have had 7 state days and only one slow play letter sent. This is fantastic!
Remember that according to the USGA rules, you only have 40 seconds to make your stroke. Watch this Pace of Play Video for details on this and other ways to improve your pace of play.
As a funny aside, Amy Butcher and Jen Farrington worked at the Men’s Spring Fourball at Neshobe a few weeks ago. The weather was rainy and cold, and the men were clocking in rounds of 5+ hours. The pro at Neshobe said that we do a much better job with Pace of Play at our events. Yay us!
CHITS
One of the fun parts of our events is winning chits. A chit is a monetary prize for winning gross or net, or getting Closest to the Pin (CTP) or a Hole-In-One at a State Day or for placing in a Major Tournament. The chits can be used at any VSWGA Member Course around the State.
Chits for Majors are given out the day of the event. State Day CTP chits are mailed out at the end of each month. Hole-In-One chits are given out at the end of the season at our Fall Awards event.
SPEAKING OF HOLE IN ONES ….
Congrats to Sue Merrill for knocking in a hole in one on Hole #6 at Fox Run. I believe it’s her second one!

HANDY HANDBOOK
We love our Member Handbook. It’s often a springtime right of passage to gather with your golf gals and select the VSWGA events you want to attend.
We also love technology. If you are tired of lugging around the paper member handbook with you, here is a copy of the handbook that you can reference electronically: PDF of 2025 Handbook
STATE DAY POINTS – NOW AVAILABLE IN GOLF GENIUS
We told you that we love technology, and we are always looking for ways to use our golf software system (Golf Genius) to better serve our organization. Modernization and automation can save time and money for everyone.
This season, we have started to use Golf Genius to track our season long State Day Points. Award Points and number of prizes are determined by the number of players per flight. Depending on flight size, prizes are honored for each position by alternating 1st Gross, 1st Net, 2nd Gross, 2nd Net, 3rd Gross, and 3rd Net.
- All ties will be awarded. More details on State Day Awards
To see how many points you have accrued so far, or to check out who’s in the lead, go to the most recent State Day Event Results and click on the “Season Long Points” Button at the top of the leaderboard.
If you are using the Golf Genius App, go to the Event/Member Portal/Results/Season Points.
Points are added a few days after each state day, so check each week to see where you stand!

VETERAN GOLF ASSOCIATION
The Veteran Golf Association (not to be confused with the Vermont Golf Association VtGA) is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their family members through the camaraderie and sportsmanship of golf.
Annually, the VGA hosts more than 1,000+ local tournaments across the country, culminating in a VGA National Championship. I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Blanchard, the Vermont Assistant Director, while volunteering at the VtGA Spring Fourball tournament at Neshobe.

2025 MAJORS
We have opened up registration in Golf Genius for the majors. As a reminder of the schedule:
July 8-9: Senior Amateur Championship at Champlain Country Club
Aug 4-6: Amateur Championship at Ekwanok Country Club
Sept 6-7: Mid-Amateur Championship at Haystack Golf Course
If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near Ekwonak during the Amateur, take a look at The Toll Road Inn in Manchester Center. They are offering VSWGA folks a 15% discount with the promo code GOLF.
INVITATIONALS
Don’t be fooled by the name…anyone can play in an invitational.
Looking for even more golf? Check out the list of invitationals on our website. If your club is hosting an invitational, please send the registration information to us at vswgaquestions@gmail.com and we will add it to the list!
Is there such a thing as too much golf? We don’t believe so!
