In Memory of Pat Job

by Pam Boyd March 30, 2019

A long-time and very active member of the VSWGA, Pat Job, passed away on December 12th in Rutland at the age of 88.

Pat was born in New Jersey and moved to Vermont in 1960 with her husband, Fred Job. She ran the day-to-day operations of the Edelweiss Motel in the Killington-Pico ski area.

She played golf at Rutland Country Club, where she won the 1991 Member-Member tournament, the 1992 Member-Guest, and the 1994 President’s Cup; and also at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club where she was the 1990 Women’s Club Champion.

She also played in many VSWGA events, winning awards at several state Senior women’s championships: 1992 Runner-up at Lake Morey, 1996 Super Senior at St. Johnsbury, and 2000 Legend at Manchester.  She also played on Vermont’s Tri-State team for many years.

Pat was an integral part of the VSWGA for a very long time. She was the Handicap Chair from before anyone can remember until 2003. She worked on course ratings with Margaret Dick, who would go to clubs with her team to collect the course data, then sit down with Pat to determine the ratings. Pat also calculated player points for State Days in the days before computers – by hand!

In 2005, in honor of her commitment to the organization, the VSWGA instituted the Pat Job Cup, which is awarded every year as the team prize at the Seniors’ championship.

Pat continued to play 9 holes on State Days until just a few years ago. She also continued to help out at the major tournaments wherever help was needed, especially at the scorer’s table. She had a great knowledge of golf and wasn’t shy about making sure the rules were followed.  Along with that rigorous eye for details, she brought a lot of enthusiasm to women’s golf in Vermont, for which she will always be remembered. The VSWGA has lost a truly stalwart advocate and friend.

When not playing golf, Pat skied, quilted, and earned her pilot’s license. She had six children, including VSWGA member Patty McGrath.

Visitation is from 4:00-6:00pm on January 9 at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Rutland on January 10, which would have been Pat’s 89th birthday.

An obituary was published in the Rutland Herald.
