Beverly D. Vaughan
1947-2024
Beverly Vaughan, 76, of East Thetford, VT, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 14, 2024. She was born on December 18,1947, to Floyd and Bessie (Minor) Dexter. She grew up in the Topsham-Corinth area and was educated at several of the local village schools in what is now the Waits River School District. She moved with her family to Thetford, Vermont, and continued her education at Thetford Academy, where she made many lifelong friends. She graduated TA in 1965 and furthered her education at the University of Vermont.
On August 30, 1968, she married the love of her life, Russell Vaughan, and they lived their entire married life on the family farm in East Thetford. They were soon blessed with their children, Michael in 1969, Rebecca in 1970, and Jeffrey in 1972.
She was an office manager at Dr. Keene’s in Hanover, NH, for many years. She also worked as a teacher and in local quilt shops. She volunteered in many of her children’s activities as a Boy Scout leader, 4-H leader, volunteer instructor at the Thetford Ski Program, Sunday school teacher, and youth group leader. As the grandchildren arrived, she traveled near and far to be involved in their lives. She was a loving, kind, supportive mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Beverly was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Thetford for over fifty years. She was a deacon for many years and served in other capacities, small and large. Among her other interests and passions were being a talented quilter, golfer, and gardener. You could often find her in her sewing room, flower gardens, or outside walking and enjoying nature. She made many special friends through these activities. She took great joy in creating and gifting her beautiful quilts to loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Bessie Dexter, and her siblings, Kenneth Dexter and Dot Laundry.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Russell Vaughan; her children, Michael (Tara) Vaughan of Truckee, CA, Rebecca (Kirk) Treece of Missoula, MT, and Jeffrey (Wanda) Vaughan of East Thetford, VT. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Connor Vaughan, Brooke Vaughan, and Carrie Vaughan, of Truckee, CA; Megan Treece (Liam Rossier) and Jacob Treece (Ben Reynoso), of Missoula, MT; and Katherine Vaughan (Jordan Eastman) and Emily Vaughan (Elijah Dunnett), of East Thetford, VT. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Leona Spooner of Massachusetts, Phyllis Berthiaume of Alabama, and Lorraine Carbino of Thetford Center, VT. She leaves many cherished nephews and nieces from both the Dexter and Vaughan sides.
A Celebration of Life and reception was held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the First Congregational Church in Thetford, UCC, 2596 Route 113, Thetford, VT 05074. If one so chooses, donations in Beverly’s name can be made to the Floyd Dexter Memorial Fund, FCCT, P.O. Box 69, Thetford, VT, 05074. This generous fund was set up in her father’s memory to help local people in need. It is our hope that Beverly’s compassion, giving spirit, and beautiful light will live on through this program.
