Vermont Hosts the 2022 New England Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship
Several Vermont Golfers Competed
– Els Walker of Dorset Field Club Wins 1st in Legends Division


The New England Women’s Amateur Golf Championship was held at the Country Club of Vermont June 20-22, with about 30 Vermont golfers participating. Not all made the cut to the final round but quite a few made an excellent showing in Waterbury. Four finished in the top 20 in the Championship division, and Els Walker brought home the trophy in the Legends division.

Junior player Morgan Smith of Massachusetts won both the overall Amateur title and Junior title with a 3-day total 7-under par 209. Sana Tufail, also of Massachusetts, was runner-up with 221. 

Finishing in 11th place in the Championship division was Amy Lyon (The Quechee Club), 242. In 13th place was Carson Richards (Burlington CC), 249. Kaylie Porter (Manchester CC) tied for 16th with a 253. And Lindsay Cone (Rutland CC) tied for 19th with a 257.

The Senior division was won by Sue Curtin of Massachusetts, with seven Vermont players among the top 28 finishers:

16th    Els Walker (Dorset Field Club), 253
19th    Reggie Parker (Ekwanok CC), 257T

28th    Dede Mahler (CC of Vermont), 268

Walker’s 253 was the best in the Legends division, with Reggie Parker close behind at 257. Dede Mahler came in 5th.
“It was great,” Walker said. “I’m excited to have been the best 65-and-over.”
