Parker Wins 9th Seniors’ Championship

Reggie Parker of Green Mountain National Golf Club won her 9th Vermont Senior Women’s Amateur Golf championship this week at the Country Club of Vermont in Waterbury. Parker’s 2-day score of 159 was seven strokes ahead of runner-up Liz Walker of Brattleboro CC. Parker went into the final day with a 5-stroke lead.

With Reggie’s 9th victory, Reggie tied the record of Mickie LaCroix who had nine wins between 1978 and 1988.  Reggie was also the only person to break 80 over the difficult Country Club of Vermont course with her 78 on Wednesday.

Mary Brush of Burlington CC finished third, Patti Haas of Killington GC was fourth, and Dede Mahler of the host club was fifth.

The low net winner was Janet Hayden of Williston GC. The Legend winner for players 70 and older was Reggie Parker, and the Super Senior winner for players age 65-69 was Sheilah Darrah of Copley CC.

Winner of the Pat Job Cup in the team competition was Williston GC.

The event, known as the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors’ Championship, began in 1966, making 2017 the 52nd year.

Next year’s Championship will be held at Ralph Myhre Golf Club in Middlebury.
