Morrissey Wins Seniors’

Jeanne Morrissey of Williston won the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors' Championship at Green Mountain National in a sudden death playoff over Margie Kaat of Ekwanok. In the second playoff hole, Margie's drive came to rest in an unfortunate lie in a fairway bunker. Eventually, that left Jeanne with needing only two putts from 15 feet to win the tournament. This is Jeanne’s first Seniors’ victory in just two years of eligibility. Jeanne's rounds were 76 - 83 for a 159 total. Margie's scores were 79 - 80 for a 159 total.

Mary Jane Shomo of Rutland and Cynthia Borck of Stowe were tied for third place with scores of 167. Sheila Darrah of Copley was fifth at 171 while Pam Cruickshank of the host Green Mountain National club was sixth at 173. Cindy Paquet of Essex and Trish Wade of Green Mountain National were tied for 7th at 174. Kathy Allbright of Green Mountain National was 9th at 175. Patti Haas of Killington and Pam Engel of Dorset were tied for 10th at 176.

Nancy Gorham-LaSante of Bellows Falls won the net championship with a net total of 133, two strokes better than Cecile Sayah of Killington. Nancy had a great first round of 79 and was tied for 2nd place with Margie Kaat going into the final round.  She would have ended in 5th place if she had not won the low net prize.  Jayne Magnant of Orleans was third with a 138. Carolyn Marshall of West Bolton and Josie Herrera of Vermont National were tied for fourth at 141. Lois Dolan of Williston was sixth at 142 while Lois Forester of Brattleboro, Mary Beth Menduni of Green Mountain, and Sarah Lee of Equinox were tied for seventh at 143. Marilyn Cassidy of Brattleboro and Marilyn Trepanier of Prospect Point were tied for 10th net at 144.

Cynthia Borck was the Super Senior winner by four strokes over Sheila Darrah of Copley. Cindy Paquet of Essex won the Legend division by two strokes over Pam Engel of Dorset.

The team from Williston won the Pat Job Cup with 438 points.  The host Green Mountain National team was second with 452 points.

Ginny Chenoweth of the Country Club of Vermont won the putting contest with 26 putts on opening day.  26 putts on the difficult Green Mountain National greens is remarkable!

Green Mountain National Golf Course was a great venue for the tournament and thanks to all the members and staff for working so hard at making it a wonderful event. Green Mountain National will host the VSWGA State Amateur Championship next year.
