Bonnie Tuscany

Bonnie Tuscany passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014, shortly after her 67th birthday. Many golfers knew Bonnie from when she played golf at Blush Hill and for a short time at Williston Golf Course. More people knew Bonnie from her 39 years of teaching in the Morristown, Vermont school district. After she retired in 2010, she moved to North Carolina to live on a golf course, occasionally returning to Vermont where she played golf and Mah Jongg. We knew she was ill, but she put on a brave front, enjoying life to its fullest. She will be missed.

Bonita “Bonnie” Peeters Tuscany, 67, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, with her son and second family by her side.

She was born in Winooski Nov. 3, 1947, daughter of Robert and Elliot (Myers) Peeters.

Bonnie worked as a schoolteacher for 39 years, including more than 20 years in Morristown schools. Through her work, she inspired more than 1,000 students.

She retired in 2010 after providing years of encouragement and guidance to her students and their families. She had received a UVM Teacher of the Year award and always believed in keeping students and school districts on a level playing field.

Bonnie had many passions, but golf was her ultimate. After retiring from teaching, she moved to North Carolina to live on a golf course and play golf every day.

Everywhere she went, she made friends. She loved to travel and made every minute count. She was an incredible mother, sister, aunt, inspiring teacher and friend to thousands of people who were always excited to see her and her infectious smile. She made great efforts to attend many of her son’s High Fives Foundation fundraising events across the country. The foundation assists athletes who have life-altering injuries.

Survivors include her son, Roy Tuscany and wife Michelle of Truckee, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Peggy Peeters of Colchester; nieces and nephews Chrisanne Spence and husband Chris, Rob Peeters and wife Dawn, and Chad Peeters; her best friend, Abi Lane, and her fiancé David Savage and daughters Karlee and husband Jake Culbertson and Gabrielle Fuller.

She also leaves behind the 39 years of students whom she educated, many who called her their favorite teacher.

A brother, Robert “Bob” Peeters, died earlier, as did her parents.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. at the Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, N.C. Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport, N.C., is assisting the family. To sent online condolences: peacocknewnamwhite.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bonnie Tuscany’s memory to her son’s High Fives Foundation via highfivesfoundation.org or by mail at P.O. Box 3212, Truckee, CA 96160.
