Tri-States Results

The Vermont team extended its Tri-State winning streak to five consecutive years with a convincing victory at St. Johnsbury Country Club playing in an all-day steady rain on Wednesday and scattered showers on Thursday.  Despite the rain, Vermont was able to take a convincing 11 stroke lead over New Hampshire and 19 stroke lead over Maine on Wednesday in the alternate shot format.  With 180 points available to each team on Thursday, no lead is safe.  The Vermont team, anchored by seven-time state amateur champion Holly Reynolds, remained strong in the individual matches extending the lead to 27 points over Maine and 39 points over New Hampshire.

In Wednesday’s alternate shot format, the teams of Mickey Potwin and Kathy Gaudreay, both of Lake Morey, won the maximum six points.  The teams of Holly Reynolds of Copley and Stacie Eaton of Rutland, Terry Boyce of Killington and Elizabeth Walker of Brattleboro, Cindy Paquet of Neshobe and Kathy Dube of Williston each contributed 5.5 points.  The teams of Dana Cassidy of Vermont National and Cheryl Hoar of Burlington, Patty McGrath of Green Mountain and Edith Hiller of Rutland, Carol Miner of Manchester and Nancy Cole of Lake Morey, and Janet Hayden and Pam Shover both of Williston added 4.5 points.

In Thursday’s individual matches, both Carol Miner of Manchester and Phyllis Simon of Williston won the maximum six points. Cindy Paquet of Neshobe, Patty McGrath of Green Mountain, and first-time player Fran McCune of the Country Club of Vermont won 5.5 points.  Another first-time player Dana Cassidy of Vermont National, Edith Hiller of Rutland, and Chris Johnson of the host St. Johnsbury club all won 5 points.

In the stroke-play competition for alternates, Pam Engel of the Dorset Field Club won low gross with an 86.  Doris Wildes of the Country Club of Vermont won low net with a 77.

Next year’s tournament will be held at the Oaks in New Hampshire.
