Ellen Carleton

The VSWGA has lost another valued member.  Ellen Carleton of Tater Hill passed away on April 5th, 2013.  She was an accomplished golfer and a  longtime competitor in state days and championships.  She won the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors' Championship in 1994 over Marilyn Patton and Liz Swim.  The obituary from the Rutland Herald is below.

LONDONDERRY - Ellen (Griswold) Carleton, 75, passed away April 5, 2013, following a brief illness.

She was born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on June 28, 1937, daughter of Lester and Joan (Winot) Griswold.

She received her education in Chester, and was working for Stoddard's Restaurant in Londonderry.

Ellen married the love of her life, Maynard Carleton, on August 6, 1955. Ellen and Mike were inseparable, whether it was spending time with their children and families or playing golf with their many friends at Tater Hill Country Club.

Surviving are two sons, Michael of Londonderry and his wife Debbie; Earle of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Teresa Johnson of Chester; Nancy Goodrich of Springfield and her husband Scott; two sisters, Lois Alexander of South Londonderry, and Doris Forbes of Andover; sister-in-law Jackie Griswold of Andover; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; brother Richard Griswold, sister Betty Beattie, son Douglas in 2009, and her husband, Mike, who passed away nine days ago.

There will be no calling hours. A celebration of their life together will be held Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the Londonderry Congregational Church.
