Martha Ianelli

MARTHA WALSH IANELLI RICHMOND - Martha Walsh Ianelli of Richmond, passed away at home on Blue Rock Road on April 5, 2013, surrounded by her family and closest friends, following a courageous two-plus year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Sept. 20, 1957, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Donald and Margaret Walsh. In 1977, Martha married the love of her life, Joseph Ianelli. After four years of Air Force life, they moved to Richmond, in 1981, where they raised their three children, Monica, Joseph and Kimberly. Martha worked for Trinity College in Burlington, until its closure in 2000. She then went to work for Community College of Vermont in Waterbury, and later Montpelier. Martha was an avid and accomplished golfer, and a longtime active member of the West Bolton Golf Club where she was Lady's Club Champion in 2005. She loved competition and was active for many years in the Vermont State Women's Golf Association. Despite her diagnosis, she continued passionately playing the game she loved with her husband and many friends. Martha loved and was intimately involved in all aspects of her family, and she has a special place in her heart for her two grandchildren, Juni and Ellie. Martha is survived by her husband, Joseph of Richmond; children, Monica (Andrew) Waller and granddaughter, Elizabeth of Mountain View, Calif.; son, Joseph of Seattle, Wash.; and Kim (John) Rinehart and granddaughter, Juniper, of Richmond; mother, Margaret Walsh of Wolfeboro, N.H.; sisters, Anne (Roland) LaPlante of Frazier, Pa., Maggie (John) Galatro of Stamford, Conn., Kathy (David) Stein of Bethel Island, Calif., Patty Walsh (Dev Kernan) of Cambridge, Mass., Maura (Bill) Seaman of Durham, N.C., and Martina (Joel) Porter of Roseville, Calif.; and brothers, Tommy (Laurie) Walsh of Watertown, Mass., and Danny Walsh of Wolfeboro, N.H. She also leaves her mother-inlaw, Helen Ianelli of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; sistersin-law, Cathy (Wayne) Johnston of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Joanne (Lee) Kelly of Wausau, Wis.; brothers-in-law, John Ianelli of Belfast, Maine, and Jim Ianelli (Jeannie) of Seattle, Wash.; and 37 wonderful nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her father, Donald Walsh of Wolfeboro, N.H.; and father-in-law, John Ianelli of Plattsburgh, N.Y. In addition, Martha leaves her playing partners, Carolyn, Denise and Delina; along with her close friends of the West Bolton Golf Club and the Vermont State Women's Golf Association. A memorial service will be held on April 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Catamount Country Club, 592 Governor Chittenden Road, in Williston. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Martha's life.
