Molly Aronsson Wins State Am

Molly Aronsson of Burlington put on a scoring exhibition for the gallery today at Burlington Country Club as she birdied the final four holes of the State Amateur Champion to finish with a four-under-par round of 68 and a twelve stroke victory over Catherine Shomo of Rutland.

 Molly's three day total of 211 breaks the scoring record set of 212 set by Libby Smith in 2000 at the Neshobe Golf Club.  Her final day round of 68 ties the record of Holly Reynolds set in 1992 at Manchester Country Club.  This is Molly's third win in the last four years. 

Catherine Shomo finished with a fine sub-par round of 70 to capture the runner-up trophy with a three-day total of 223.  Five time champion Holly Reynolds of Copley finished in third place with a total of 225.  Kristen Garabedian of Lake St. Catherine was 4th at 236.  Kristen also won the junior championship.  5th place went to Jeanne Morrissey of Williston who fired a fine 74 for a 237 total to move up the leader board.  Lindsay Cone ended in 6th place at 238.  Tiffany Maurycy of Williston was 7th at 242.  Keely Levins of Rutland also fired a 74 in the final round to move into 8th place at 243.  Reggie Parker of Ekwanok and Kristin Mahoney of Rutland rounded out the top ten with scores of 244 and 246 respectively.


The net winners were Donna Mazut of Vermont National with a net score of 215 followed by Amy Gregory of Burlington (216), Mary Corey of Cedar Knoll (219), Kathy Allbright of Crown Point (221), Tracy Sloan of Brattleboro, VSWGA President, (223), Helene Poulin of Rocky Ridge (223), Pam Engel of Dorset (225), Nancy Gorham-Lasante of St. Johnsbury (225), Rhonda Colvard of Burlington, tournament co-chair, (226), Mary Brush, Burlington (226), Diane Peters of Burlington, tournament co-chair, (226), and Trish Wade of Crown Point (226). 

The Buxton Cup went to the strong Rutland team for the 27th time winning by 40 strokes over Burlington Country Club.  This is Rutland's third win in a row.
