Vermont Team for USGA State Team Championship

Vermont will send a three-person team to the USGA Women's State Team Championship to be played at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas on September 18-20, 2007.  Vermont will be represented by Elizabeth Walker, former VSWGA president from Brattleboro Country Club, Deirdre Morris of Proctor-Pittsford Country Club, and Nancy Gorham-Lasante of St. Johnsbury Country Club.

This tournament was started in 1995 as part of the USGA's centennial celebration and has continued every two years since then.  It is a 54-hole stoke play championship with the best two scores of the three players counting each day.  The state team with the lowest score at the end of the competition is the winner.  This year's field consists of teams from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia.

The women's championship will be held on the Nickclaus Couse at the Club at Carlton Woods.  This course measures 5918 yards and plays to a par 72.  The men's championship will be played at the Fazio Course also at Carlton Woods.

Vermont's best finish in this championship was a tie for 24th in 2003 at Wellesley Country Club in Wellesley Hills, MA with a team that included Libby Smith.

The team will be heading to Texas on Saturday for two rounds of practice before the championship.  The VSWGA is subsidizing the team's travel expenses and Shari Pfannenstein of Pfantasy Originals has provided team shirts for each day of play.
