Reggie Parker Reaches Quarterfinals of USGA Seniors’

Reggie Parker of Ekwanok survived to the quarterfinal round of the 44th USGA Seniors Women's  Amateur  Championship before falling to Annette Gaiotti of  MA by a slim one-up margin.  The tournament was held at Apawamis Country Club in Rye, NY on September 17-22.

Reggie qualified with rounds of 77 and 86 surviving weather problems to make it into the top 64 and the match play rounds.  Reggie was tied for 38th in the qualifier.  In her opening match, Reggie defeated Connie Shorb of York, PA 1-up.  On Tuesday, playing two matches, Reggie defeated Taffy Brower of Boynton Beach, FL 3-2 in the morning match and Cynthia Friend of Lexington, MA 2-1 in the afternoon to make it into the quarterfinals for the second straight year.

The quarterfinal match against Annette Gaiotti of Marston Mills, MA was very closely contested as they went to 18 all-square.  Annette sank a long putt for birdie and Reggie just missed her 15 footer.  Despite the loss, this a tremendous accomplishment for Reggie in the very prestigious USGA event.

The tournament was won by Diane Lang of Weston, FL over 4-time champion Carol Semple Thompson of Sewickly, PA.  Carol was playing in her 102nd USGA event and going for a record eight USGA titles.
